Professor and Langdale Endowed Chair in Forest Business

Advances in Logging Technology

Dr. Chad Bolding is a distinguished Professor and the Langdale Endowed Chair in Forest Business. His research is focused on applied forest business issues and is organized into four key areas:

First, he evaluates forest businesses on their safety, productivity, planning, and logistics. Second, he develops practical solutions to enhance the efficiency and profitability of these businesses. Third, Dr. Bolding analyzes complex issues like supply chain management and the opportunities and challenges of biomass utilization. Finally, his work includes evaluating best management practices and the environmental impacts of forest operations.

Awards and Recognition

  • 2022 Carl Alwin Schenck Award: This prestigious national award from the Society of American Foresters recognizes outstanding performance in forestry education and is given to only one forestry faculty member annually.

  • 2022 Certificate of Teaching Excellence and Outstanding Teaching Award: He was recognized by the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech for his teaching excellence, an award given to one faculty member in each college.

  • 2020 Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award: Dr. Bolding was also honored by the Virginia Tech Graduate School for his exceptional mentorship of graduate students, an award presented to one faculty member in each college.
